My very first love affair was with books and it probably started as early as preschool. I loved how they could transport me to places far and imaginative with just the power of words. Books were my escape from reality but for the last 2 years or so I haven’t been reading enough.
In 2020, I probably read less than 5 books and for 2021 maybe 3, awful, I know! It makes me sad because I know my love for books hasn’t died, life just got in the way. Or maybe I allowed life to get in the way. Regardless of what did what, I plan on changing this.
For 2022, I want to read at least 12 books, one for each month. If I go over then that’s fine but I’m starting small and making time for something that truly brings me joy.
So here’s a list of books I’m hoping to read before the year ends:
1. This Close To Okay by Leesa Cross-Smith
2. The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires by Grady Hendrix
3. Lara Dean Keeps Breaking Up With Me by Mariko Tamaki
4. My Sister, The Serial Killer by Oyinkan Braithwaite (this has been on my must read list for a while now)
5. All The Bright Places by Jennifer Niven (I’m a big fan of the movie and I’m interested in seeing how the book differs from the film)
I want to add a few mystery, fantasy and poetry books to the list. I usually stick to romance or autobiographies/memoirs so I’m excited to branch out and try a few new genres.
None of these books are “newly published”, meaning they aren’t 2022 books. I’m open to reading new books coming out this year so if you have any recommendations, please let me know in the comment section.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend everyone!
I resonate so deeply with the post as I too am such a lover of books and reading and have been this way since probably the same age as you! I set myself this same challenge last year to get me back into reading after feeling like I hadn’t been making enough time (or simply there just wasn’t enough time) for me to read as much as I wanted to! I ended up reading 15 books last year but set myself 12 as a minimum ☺️.
Two books I read last year that I absolutely loved were:
Queenie by Candice Carty-Williams
The Black Kids by Christina Hammonds Reed
I hope you enjoy 🥰

You went over the minimum, congrats 👏 (that’s my hope too). I’ll definitely check out your two recommendations, I want to write a post about each book I read so I’ll let you know how I like them 😄

That’s a great idea. It’s always been a goal of mine to do some book review posts but never got round to it. I always do reviews on other platforms but always separately. Hope you manage to hit your target and like my recommendations 🤗

I also need to read more but I find it harder to read fiction than nonfiction these days. It wasn’t so at the beginning of 2021 but things change.
I’m hoping to explore a bit of fiction this year though to revive the love I used to have for it

I can understand that, fantasy fiction is probably my least favourite book genre to read but I’m trying to dig deep and see if I can be more fond of it. What are your favourite nonfiction books?? Good luckkk, I hope you’ll find a few good fiction books to revive the love

I wouldn’t say I have favorite nonfiction books but generally I read books on writing, personal development and philosophy. I know,I’m a nerd😂😂😭😭

Recommend 3 off the top of your head, I’m interested in seeing what you read. Being a nerd is lowkey talent or superpower in my opinion😂 knowledge is power as they say
